framed by two spoken word samples and wrapped in house and techno emotions, that know about electro and 90’s electronica too: the new, second album of the leipzig and berlin based producer and live artist martin enke aka lake people moves in a fresh way. this time he shifts towards a focus on the essentials of electronic club music: sounds and groove, rough and playful interweaved with the aesthetic particles of techno. with his “point ep”, released on the berlin based imprint krakatau records in late 2012, his creative life as a producer for melancholic driven club tunes took off. several top notch djs played the tune “point in time”, lake people started to tour world-wide with his mesmerizing live set and produced countless remixes for colleagues from all around the globe. in 2015 he finally released his first album “purposely uncertain field” on the munich based label permanent vacation and delivered eleven tracks at the interface of techno, ambient, experimental and electronic, that bewitch with hymnal chords, yearningly melodies, detailed production, elaborate sound design and an overall introspective, emotive feeling. now, just shortly after he published a fresh ep on the dresden based imprint uncanny valley, lake people drops “phase transition”, a new album consisting of ten haunting tracks full of dance suspense. he recorded all between 2016 and early 2017 on various vintage analog synthesizers, uad and other creative interfaces. to find out if his latest pure slamming tracks work deep, he tried them out during his live shows in order to catch some new ideas directly from the dance floor.

‘race to zero’ is the new album by musician and composer john matthias and producer, musician and composer jay auborn.
the album’s starting point was a series of acoustic improvisations recorded in a variety oflocations, from a 700 year old chapel in the devon countryside to a basement studio in reykjavík, iceland. in an attempt to create a fractured sense of space reflective of the digital condition, the duo found themselves working within a place that could only exist in the digital landscape.
by crushing the recordings through a hundred different virtual rooms of reverb and other chaotic digital processes, they collided, soared and splintered into sweeping new rhythms, melodies and drones.

coming hot on the heels of samuel rohrer’s range of regularity album are two eps of striking reinterpretations. these new remixes provide an intriguing parallax view of the original tracks, using the percussive eclecticism of the parent lp as a starting point from which to journey into sonically vibrant, feature rich territories. the production specialists on the first ep include ricardo villalobos and vilod, the collaborative duo with max loderbauer. villalobos, has already formed a strong working relationship with rohrer’s am- biq trio, lends his talents to both of these new eps.

o celebrate the 25th anniversary of ugkãs first album, get on down goes the extra mile, presenting it for the first time ever on vinyl. and 2-lp clear vinyl at that, giving the strutting, funky grooves the chance to really stretch out on your system. back in 1992, southern hip-hop was still proving to the world that it could sustain a fan base that was chiefly raised on rap from new york and la. the geto boys and 2 live crew had made strong cases by the earliest 90s, and pimp c and bun b were ready to make their own. most of the trunk-bumping bass comes from drum programs and basic sampling on these tunes in later years they would build their sound into something even fuller and deeper. self-produced with additional work from houston locals bernie bismark and shetoro henderson, the tracks here are minimal, slow and menacing, which matched their lyrical approach quite nicely. you can hear the beginnings of the groups true greatness in these early lyrical workouts ¹ several taken from the regional cassette-only ep the southern way that got them signed to jive with tales of street hustles, relationships and self-reliance in a world stacked against them. they may have been done early-on, but that doesnt mean they arent crucial to ugks legacy cases in point being the three singles: something good, a charismatic update to bill withers use me up, and pocket full of stones (the latter featured on the menace ii society soundtrack). beyond the singles, deeper cuts like iãm so bad, feels like iãm the one whos doin dope and cramping my style made it clear to the world that this crew had the attitude and charisma to make even bigger waves in the years to come.

analogue attic s first full-length album comes from local jazz musician, matthew hayes. based on themes and memories from around victoria, indigo sounds like the feeling of diving through waves and sitting on golden sand. meditative synth lines and hayes stunning bass guitar work ebbs and swells like the ocean. a beautiful first release from this up and coming artist.

dj tennis is amazing, and the fact that he was willing to do not one but two remixes for our simple symmetry release, is more than amazing. dj tennis needs no introductions, beside the point that he is one of the best djs around and has one of the coolest labels, life and death, he is a gifted producer that transformed the two tracks of the original release into monsters, one, plane goes east, is a disco winner, that just bangs with its percussive attitude, and the other, voodoo your ex is an amazing emotional journey that elevates the original to new heights, a vinyl to have and to hold.

london-based producer and dj tarquin has returned to gobstopper. “grease (chord mix)” is a high tempo example of the genre’s more experimental side, using fragmented percussive samples set to a background of pitch-bent chord stabs and twisted melodic elements.
providing as much impact in the track’s negative space as in its instrumentation, tarquin s minimalist approach to production on “grease (chord mix)” establishes its boldness and makes it one of the most recognisable examples of deconstructed club music of the year so far.
as a counter-point to the abstract starkness of “grease (chord mix)”, the release s flip side “foxtown” utilises ominous synths and distorted bass tones to tackle the more upfront sound of first generation grime production.

having first linked up with london-based coyote records in early 2015, grade 10’s forever returns to the label proper for his first full ep project, hymn which explores the myriad sounds, layers and textures that have come to define his music.
the delicate, slow-burning cinema of widescreen opener gweilo, the shadowy eeriness of hymn and the crunchy, industrial club heat of swamped each point to different reference points, but all feel interlinked by forever’s grip on atmosphere and tone.
coyote label mate, chemist - also one third of planet mu trio, silk road assassins - also turns in a booming edit of hymn, complete with re-booted, icy melodies that fire off like shards of glass, and rude, 808 patterns that nod to his work with sra.

visions congo is yet another moniker from discrepant’s head honcho, goncalo f cardoso, taking africa as a starting point to evoke the memories and re-imagined experiences of his 6-month stay there in 2015.
most of the recordings and compositions were done in the great lakes of africa region of uganda, congo (drc), tanzania as well as the island of zanzibar.

loco dices desolat label welcomes uk artist waff for its next ep, a meaty four tracker by the name of hanzz sup. in recent times, waff has really established himself as one of the beacons of main room house and techno around the world. from standout sets at key ibiza clubs to gigs at fabric, london via big underground hits on labels like drumcode, cocoon and hot creations, he is a real man of the moment. the title track opens the ep in fine style with hulking great big kicks reverberating down low as wonky tones and scattered percussion add more heat. barreling along and taking no prisoners, it is a hugely physical drum track with spoken word mutterings piling on the pressure. making just as big an impression but in less direct ways, the shuffling and bubbling karimba is a skittish, busy affair with tribal drums and vocal chants all layered up into something that is sure to become anthemic in ibiza this summer. on the flip side hypnotised works on getting into your brain with tight, scurrying drum and percussive patterns that never let up. its a dense, busy arrangement that makes for a high octane ride. last of all inception takes on more of a house feel, with well swung, low slung drums bringing the groove as hammering hits and frosty synth lines keep busy up top. this is house and techno that makes a big impact from one of the most on point producers out there right now.

innovation distinguishes between a leader and a follower. this is the debut of fabrizio lapiana with a selection that will write history, fabrizio crafted his own way of expressing techno, precise, chirurgic, on point. this release shows to the world how music can be very strong, without exaggerations.

it might not always be obvious, but music as escapism can serve as a radical social statement. what some may see as daydreaming or imagination of impossible realities, can constitute a sort of revolution of thought, the seed of a more human and sentient worldview. although on a first listen, high-level basis, it may seem as if the music contained in informa’s 10th release is a series of psychedelic, dystopian and otherworldly tools for escape, it might actually be a proposition for improvement, a route to self-discovery, a reflection on the true nature of our surroundings. although at no point in this release such high concepts are made explicit, there is a consistency in vision and methods present in the art created by the peers that label founder and owner deepbass has selected for this very special, celebratory release. encapsulating the product of eight minds, eight visions, in a common concept for evolution in unity.

usas jon hester serves up four heady techno cuts for the second installment in rekids newly launched techno orientated series special projects. based in berlin, hesters discography may be humble but it is one of pure quality. the american techno producer has released on rodhads dystopian, appeared on a release alongside the likes of dj richard, hinode and arthur kimskii (point break) on l.a.g., and now joins the rekids special projects series featuring fbk, markus suckut and dj deep. heaving distorted kicks and echoing stabs lay the blueprint to inertia whilst intricate hats make way for metallic melodies. speeding things up, on the move is a more driving cut in comparison with its trippy atmospherics and crunchy percussion, whereas the surging short circuit demonstrates syncopated percussion and ominous synths for a rhythmic dancefloor workout. finally, neurons sees various cosmic elements ebb in and out of the mix for a mesmerising conclusion.

the mixtapers are an italian band focused on a dynamic, live funk and hip hop sound. following an appearance on sonar kollektiv last year with the we so good 12inch, they ve been chosen to inaugurate bakerboy s agnis music label with this effervescent ep. the title track on sun metaphors uses blissful rhodes keys as the focal point for a sunkissed slice of vocal deep house, while smokey reflection takes a more punchy approach to the drums while maintaining the woozy mood. trinity kicks off the b-side with some squelchy electro funk stylings, and then sara lima lends her vocal tones to downtempo cruiser stay (away from me)

julien sabre and konstress blind box label is branching out with a new sublabel entitled blind box basic, which seeks to explore a more minimalistic approach to the dance floor. in order to get things rolling, they re turning to chris carrier and his monsieur georget alias for three tracks of on-point, rolling house grooves. carrier s experience in handling heads down tracks is evident throughout, from the insistent surge of geogette to the hazy tones of balade sur le chemien de fer, while mais ou se cache donc le zebu heads straight to freaked out minimal territory.

multi instrumentalist and deep house master lars bartkuhn returns to utopia records following his nomad ep in april with a 10 minute masterpiece, an ode to the massai . an epic journey of such depth and positive spirit it perhaps deserves to render a genre all to itself. with its musicality, complex arrangement and phrasing massai is a timeless and personal statement from bartkuhn as he seeks the essence in what dance music can and possibly should be. as a young child growing up in frankfurt, bartkuhn penned his first pieces of music with a synthesizer and sequencer, bought for him by his parents upon realising their son s obsession with music. mastering the guitar as a teenager bartkuhn fell deeply in love with the music of pat metheny, keith jarrett and john coltrane and styles such as soul, funk, brasilian sounds, minimal, dance, and others which is heard in his music today. by the mid 90 s bartkuhn began to explore the deep and soulful side of house music and formed lamaya productions and the now legendary record label needs (not wants) together with his older brother marek bartkuhn and dj yannick. needs rapidly became a synonym for soulful, high quality music and while labeled a house music imprint it was lars input that lead the trio to explore alternative, and at the time unorthodox, musical influences that allowed for original textures and arrangements to be included in their productions. countless remix commissions followed and their sound travelled worldwide with works for francois kevorkian, jazztronik, ennio morricone, atjazz to name a few. to date bartkuhn has produced five solo albums all of which demonstrate a never ending creative flow of ideas and artistic diversity, complexity and passion. after some years away from the dance music scene, residing in brasil, lars decided to continue this journey on volcov s neroli records, followed by a 12- for alex bradley s phonica affiliated utopia records. the latter release, nomad has found its way into the sets of the likes of jeremy underground paris, hunee, antal, ron trent, rainer truby, bicep and mcde to name just a few. it s at this point that bartkuhn gives us massai...his self proclaimed finest work

(probably).

the eccentrics parties started some three years ago by will overill and mark gilbert have been a monthly staple of the eclectic nightlife in peckham since its inception, playing a very wide selection of music attributed to thirty years of record collecting. the second release of which delves into those collections to amass a veritable hoard of gold. cosa rosa: is a stunning fretless bass led boogie new age monster, with soaring vocals guaranteed to bristle hairs on the back of the most cynical of music fan, a sure fire winner here. wake up: is a dose of downtempo synth laden kraut funk urging the listener to taste life in all its technicolour glory. nar na neh: here’s something a smart dj will use to build a dance floor, a disco not disco jam that rolls along with drum machine insistence, compass point sensibilities with synth and slap bass wonder. och eye: dirty, sleazy synth laden kraut funk, heavy heavy chugg 4 rune : mystical bongo laden intro with eastern snake charming seduction builds and builds to dramatic synth stabs, cinematic, wide and very very hot

onboard having come up with an annual-ish drop of 12inches since 2010, even brenden aka chmmr set aside the spring of 2016 to challenge himself to a new format: a full-length album. a true nostalgic, he uses compass point-era and early italo sounds for inspiration and attempts to simulate these styles. this makes for a melodic, chuggy and graphic album that belongs a little more in the living room than on the dance floor. with 10 tracks of dusty rhythms and the honest, naive and spacious themes that is brendens signature, its a record designed to signal that todays technological future may not be as different as yesterdays. features a nice-looking cover painting drawn by the late harold cohens aaron program - automation at its finest. hidden behind his chmmr moniker is even brenden, whose summery debut found its way into the world via norwegian psych-disco label luna flicks in 2010. the record became somewhat of a soughtafter item and after making pit stops at relish, dødpop and untz untz records, he landed on prins thomas full pupp in 2014 and have stayed put ever since, all the while enjoying a steady habit of record jocking and the occasional keyboard duty in telephones now-defunct live band. even resides in oslo makes odd waves without vowels.

12inch sleeve designed and hand screen printed by alex from cassegrain. arcing seas is back with arcs-03, a unique ep of selected tracks from the first two releases, remixed by the mover, peder mannerfelt and shifted. first up, rave and techno legend the mover presents his first new material since 2009. after using the slogan “see you in 2017&#8243,,,, for years before, this marks the start his return. he turns trappist into a hard hitting electro workout using original parts that explode and punish the senses. peder mannerfelt introduces the b-side with his take on skull gun. broken beats and exciting percus-sion sit atop deep kicks, disorientating quick fire samples and rapid snares, showing how versatile and on-point he is. finally, shifted is called into action with a signature deep-sonic soundscape. rumbling kicks and high frequency textures occupy the sound field, alongside reverberating samples from vultures, making it his own. label info: arcing seas is an anagram of cassegrain. it started out as a secret alias, releasing a couple eps on our circula sound. the secret was less well kept after the duo appeared at berghain under this name.

we at finale sessions are excited to have mor elians added to the finale sessions family . mor is one of the younger generation artists that we have been keeping our eye on for sometime now. hailing from tel aviv and now living in los angeles and berlin and now travelling the world bringing her style of forward thinking house and techno so lets get with the music and we start with the track the orionids one of my favorites of the ep with its bouncing drums and the industrial flexing pads and the filtering synth s that give it the deepness for days. then we move to the second track light pollution another proper deep rendering if i may add and those high hats that just move the track into the proper scenic vibe, very minimal but to the point with the pads just poking its head out to go forth with the flow of the vocal. last but not least we have echopark-this track closes out the ep with its very bouncy acid sounds and it s minimalistic drum patterns makes for a very melodic sound. we at finale sessions want to thank you from the bottoms of our hearts and we love you very much

patrick vanos next installment on mos ferry takes you on a journey. industrealized ep is an adventure ride between techno and house with side trips into minimal or psychodelic areas. after his tape jam ep and the following remixes patrick did not sit back complacently. he mixed and compiled selected vibes, vol.5, was part of our mos ferry takeover boiler room in berlin and not to mention the long nights he spent in the studio for this release. the result is quality tunes right to the point.

it’s not very widely known but, when he’s not digging for other people’s music to play out at the party, mister harkin spends a good deal of his time in the studio making some of his own. up to now, those efforts have made their way onto records for the always on point argot imprint in chicago and nyc’s own throne of blood. and although he’s djed at almost 250 mister saturday night & sunday parties since we got going in 2009, this is his debut release on the label. it’s made up of three spaciously sculpted club scorchers, ripe and ready for the power hour, and we’re super stoked to finally be able to share them with you.
